Abstract
早在1906年李叔同在《音乐小杂志》上介绍贝多芬之前，贝多芬的各类作品（包括交响乐）已在上海租界的音乐会上和沙龙中多次出现。本文以贝多芬音乐在开埠后上海西人音乐生活中的呈现为焦点，以编年的方式追溯贝多芬在中国的演奏史，兼及十九世纪下半叶寓沪西侨乐人乐事。本文的主要资料为1850年创刊的英文《北华捷报》，主要关注的时段为1860至1880的二十年。
