Abstract
Play is the work of children when it comes to learning, however it a medium in which children can make sense of their emotions and their experiences, become unstuck with developmental hurdles and gain a greater sense of who they are. In this workshop I will provide an overview of what play therapy is, its benefits for children (and adults), and some of the possible applications in early childhood settings. Together we will also explore the emergence of play therapy in New Zealand and possibilities for the field in the future. I will also share some strategies that you can implement into your work with children in any setting.
