Abstract

What's the problem? ... it’s that the home-buyer market doesn’t value sustainable homes. Is there an alternative financial model for sustainable housing development? RESEARCH QUESTION How could the build-to rent financial model impact the economic viability of sustainable residential construction, from a private property developer’s perspective? SUB QUESTIONS • What metrics are used to ascertain financial performance of a BTR development project in NZ ? • What specific impacts has sustainable design and construction had on your residential rental investment properties ? • How does sustainable design and construction in a BTR asset influence long-term financial efficiencies, and how does this impact developers’ willingness to spend more on sustainable design and construction in the development of the asset ? • How does the economic performance of a completed sustainable BTR residential development compare to a BTR residential development built to ‘building industry standards?
