Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and market reputation among New Zealand’s top 20 listed firms from 2018 to 2024. Using panel regression analysis, it finds a statistically significant positive correlation between ESG scores and market reputation, as proxied by S&P credit ratings, with both models demonstrating high explanatory power (Adjusted R² ≈ 0.892). The results highlight ESG performance as a strategic asset for enhancing reputational capital in New Zealand’s unique regulatory and market context.
