Abstract

The Ako AI Agents Project is a collaborative initiative across three New Zealand institutions (Manukau Institute of Technology, Unitec, and Toi-Ohomai) to develop AI-driven educational tools for nursing education, including agents for drug calculations, de-escalation scenarios, and deteriorating patient simulations. These agents are iteratively designed, tested by staff, students, and subject matter experts, and refined based on feedback, with preliminary findings highlighting their user-friendly design, interactive nature, and ability to bridge theory with practice. Future recommendations include adding voice functionality, visual realism, personalized debriefs, and adaptive difficulty, while expanding to agents for cultural safety, academic writing, and Te Reo
