Attitudes and perceptions form as a direct result of experience. In nursing, clinical experience is essential to the development of the practical and relational skills required for success in the profession. Yet, it appears that clinical experience in aged care does not necessarily result in a future nursing workforce that is inspired to work in the specialty. As part of a national study of student nurses’ perceptions of aged care in the polytechnic sector, a literature review indicated key areas of importance linked to clinical experience. In this presentation, these key areas will be summarised with key messages identified.
