BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES • Systematic collection of spatial data: decision making tool • Planning and project implementation • Monitoring and management • Generate maps for publication and information • Tiritiri Matangi: unique as a scientific reserve/sanctuary with public access • Volunteers provide significant support • Citizen science aspects of volunteerism • Monitoring grids developed for Fantails (2014-2016) • Field collection of spatial data • Determine ground cover • Determine leaf litter and refuge characteristics • Provide information on physical features of the coastline • Develop a spatial database with imagery of the areas covered • Establish volunteer based data collection capabilities for the island
