The philosophy that informed Unitec’s transformation (i.e. restructure) can thus be summed up:
*Public vocational education should prioritize and focus wholly on the needs of business.
*Education to be business focussed, not student focussed
Unitec’s ‘transformation’ began in earnest in late 2013, with the restructure of the design school, with staffing being reduced from 53 to 17 permanent positions. Half of the teaching hours were to be filled by industry ‘experts’, Increased online learning, with intended dramatic reductions in face-to-face teaching.
