Abstract
Narrative painting through allegorical figuration For the initial stages of my master’s project I embarked on a series of works that were a tentative step towards understanding the notion of ‘narrative’ and how this might be embraced within figurative representation. My project employed narratives that were derived from personal recollections of childhood events. These events were recreated through an emotional register, framed by a fictional scenario. I staged scenes with models as a reference point to paint from. This involved the use of costumes and props that were devised to enhance the ‘allegorical’ implications of the narrative.
