dc.description.abstract | RESEARCH QUESTION:
What are the aspects of architecture that provide an alternative to the current paradigms in both private industrial port architecture, and public waterfront architecture?
The master thesis proposal develops a design for a shipyard located on Halsey Street Wharf, Auckland. Through deriving an architecture from the historical context of the Auckland waterfront, the proposal develops a design that questions the current paradigm of international waterfront architecture and industrial port architecture and alludes to an alternative response that allows the public to interact and engage with an active program of historic meaning and display. It is theorised that architecture should relate to the context of the site, providing an architecture of assimilation and integration. | en_NZ |
